OPINIONS OF INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS

Sadiq Mohammed Maishanu / Nigeria / International Relations

My name is Sadiq Mohammed Maishanu. I am studying International Relations. I am from nigeria. IKU has been a wonderful experience for me. When I first learnt about coming to Turkey for studies, I was happy but when i arrived it was more than I expected because the city is beautiful, the people are nice and lovely and my school is spectacular, I love the environment of my school, the teachers and staffs are very good in their various fields of professions. And my biggest joy of this year was the party I went to which was organised for international students it was amazing we have fun and chat with friends and we get to see some traditional turkish dance and the belly dancers were spectacular I love the time I spent there. Let me say that this is a perfect place for studies and I am confident that in coming years Istanbul Kültür University will be one of the best not only in Turkey but in the world and I wish and hope to obtain my diploma in this university.

Laura Simaityte / Lithuania / English Language and Literature

I am Laura Simaityte coming from Lithuania and studying English Language and Literature at Istanbul Kultur University.  I find this university perfect for me because of its atmosphere which is both professional and sociable. First of all, lectures at my department are very interesting and informative because of professional lecturers who know how to get students’ interest. As I am studying at Istanbul Kultur University I see my future much brighter with many possibilities for further studies that would help me to get my dream job. Moreover, students and consultants are very friendly and always ready to help. Thus, Istanbul Kultur University provides professional studies and friendly atmosphere where student can both have a good time and get education.

Living and studying in Istanbul is great experience because city is fascinating and has a lot of places to visit and many things to offer. Istanbul Kultur University is located in very good place which is easy to reach and easy to go from. In addition, I enjoy living and studying in Istanbul because city is very beautiful and different from what I have seen in my country. In brief, I am very glad that I am living and studying in Istanbul because of the city which has a lot of places to visit and a lot of things to do in and because of the quality of studies at Istanbul Kultur University.

International Exchange Students

Katinka Ernstsson / From Sweden, Malmö University

Doing my Erasmus at the İstanbul Kultur University in Istanbul is one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. Not only did I get a good introduction to the diversity – both social and political – of the city, but I also realised that education plays a bigger role in shaping our understanding of our surroundings than I first thought. Being used to a swedish model of education, I soon understood that you could learn a lot about the turkish social realm just by attending classes and being attentive to what is said and how, what is left out, as well as the interaction between students and teachers during class.

Clara Wolf / From Germany, Leipzig University

I think, there are a lot of personal decisions which influences the intercultural contacts to other people. And the offers the Kültür university gives are quite good for people who want to contact via Erasmus programs. I was really happy of the warmth of the people here. There were no problems to find new friends and to settle my life here. I enjoyed my time in Istanbul and I would recommend everybody to make this experiences. Çok teşekkür ederim!

Aylin Eda Kutlu / From Australia, University of La Trobe

I was fortunate to be an exchange student at Istanbul Kultur University and it was one of the most amazing experiences of my life thus far.  It is an invaluable experience that I would recommend to everyone! I had an absolutely amazing time before university even began, however little did I know that it would be even better once university commenced.

My experience at Istanbul Kultur University was unforgettable; everyone was very friendly, approachable and always willing to help. The classes are quite small meaning that lecturers have more time to help individual students. During the semester I met many people from around the world, some of whom I will keep in contact with for life. The exchange experience is a fantastic opportunity to make global connections that are essential in the work force and it allows you to learn a lot about yourself. I can explain about my experiences in Istanbul forever but it still would not justify how special it is until you experience it yourself. After spending time in Istanbul I can now understand why Napoleon Bonaparte said, “If the Earth were a single state, Istanbul would be its capital.”

Matti Niemi / Finland, Jyvaskyla University

I am a Finnish exchange student and arrived to Istanbul in the late January and have now spent little over three months as a student of Kültür University. Overall studying here has been a very positive experience. Many of the courses have been very interesting and offered a new view for me. Most of them I couldn’t have chosen in Finland so this has been a broadening experience and I believe it will be beneficial for me in the future. Also the facilities in University have been first class, it’s a nice experience to use escalator at school! The staff here has been very helpful from the beginning and made my stay very comfortable. Special thanks to the organizers of Buddy-Program.
