Izmir University of Economics, which is the first foundation university in Izmir and in Aegean region, was established in 2001 by “Izmir Chamber of Commerce Education and Health Foundation” in accordance with the provisions of Turkish Republic Constitution, Law No: 2547, Higher Education Law and Regulations about Foundation Higher Education Institutions.  Izmir University of Economics aims to nurture individuals who are creative and entrepreneurial, dedicated and wholly committed to Ataturk’s principles and reforms.

The University currently has 8 Faculties, 2 Schools, 3 Vocational Schools, 2 Graduate Schools, and 9 Research Centres. These academic units offer 37 different undergraduate programs, 22 different master programs, and 9 different PhD programs.7 of the undergraduate programs being offered are dual diploma programs executed jointly with the USA-(SUNY) New York State University.

Who can apply?

  • Foreign nationals
  • Blue Card holders (Turkish citizens by birth, but released from citizenship by the Ministry of the Internal Affairs, and who can certify that their minor children who are registered in that permit are eligible for the rights stated in Law No. 5203)
  • Foreign nationals who became Turkish citizen afterwards/dual citizens in the same status
  • Turkish nationals who completed their entire secondary education in a foreign country excluding Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, (including those who completed their entire secondary education at Turkish schools in a foreign country excluding Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus)

ACCOMMODATION

IUE has an on-campus dormitory with a 480-room capacity. International students can stay in the dormitory by paying the accommodation fee. The dormitory offers a very comfortable, secure, enjoyable, and hygenic environment to our students to make their student life much more easier during their study.

The Dormitory of IUE accommodates 480 students, the first 4 floors of the building are allocated for female students and the other 4 floors are allocated for male students. All the doors are operated by a personal card system. Common areas are under constant surveillance.

The dormitory building has a geothermal heating system and 24 hours hot water. In addition, the dormitories are air-conditioned. The students may have their clothes washed and ironed with a reasonable price.

There are administrators, receptionists, and security staff in the dormitory for 24 hours. In the Dormitory Building there are common study rooms, TV saloon, cafeteria, restaurant and beauty parlor.

Breakfasts and meals are provided as table d’hote or a la carte from the restaurant in the main building and dormitory building.

The students staying in the dormitory can benefit from the Medical Office of the University in the daytime, and the general hospital or other policlinics nearby at night. In addition, there is Dokuz Eylül University Hospital in 3 minutes distance.

Around the campus, there is 3M Migros, Özdilek, Kipa hypermarkets, and Agora, Palmiye shopping and cinema centers. For sports, there is a basketball field and a synthetic pitch at the campus and there are swimming pools, fitness centers and tennis courts of the hotels that are very close to the university.

The students can benefit from the Medical Office of the University in the daytime, and the general hospital or other policlinics nearby at night.

If the dormitory is not preferred, there are also furnished apartments in the district available with reasonable prices.

Transportation

How to get to IUE

By Air:

The closest airport to İzmir is Adnan Menderes Airport.  You may take the HAVAŞ Bus to Alsancak to get to the city center directly.  Also, bus no. 200 operates between the airport and the city center. To get to the campus from the city center, you may either take a taxi or local bus (no. 169 & 269).  Please remember to bring TL. with you, or use the exchange office at the airport.

By Taxi:

You may take the private taxis from the airport.  The journey takes approximately 40 minutes and the fare is around € 30.  Please be aware that the driver should turn on the taximeter before take off.

By Bus:

The following buses operate between the campus and the different districts of the city.  Tickets for buses can be purchased on board or from local kiosks.

By Boat:

Also, there are boats operating between Karşıyaka-Konak, Karşıyaka-Alsancak, and Karşıyaka-Güzelyalı.

By Metro:

There is a metro line in İzmir, which operates on the line Üçyol-Konak-Çankaya-Bornova.
